The Principality of Monaco is a landlocked state within the territory of the French Republic. It is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, along the Côte d'Azur, about 12.50 miles east of Nice, and 5miles from Menton, a town on the border with Italy. An independent principality, Monaco has been a constitutional monarchy since 1911, with a prince as the head of state. Monegasque, French, English and Italian are commonly spoken there. Member of the Organisation International de La Francophonie since 1970, French is the only official language.
